Thrilling, mesmerizing, frustrating, loud, bustling, over-crowded, buzzing, trendsetting, and packed with history that has defined much of the western world it is, without doubt, one of the world’s great cities. If you have come to London to see some of the world’s most famous art galleries then you should try and limit yourself to three or four out of the hundreds littered around the city. The most famous range from the Tate Modern to the Tate, the National Portrait Gallery, the Royal Academy, and the National Gallery. Or if you want to go visiting museums, it is probably best to pick your favorites from the fantastic British Museum (one of the best in the world and simply a must-see) to the Imperial War Museum, the V & A, the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum or even some of the hundreds of smaller more eclectic offerings like the John Soames Museum or the Sherlock Holmes Museum.

London also has some of the most incredible gardens and parks of any city, with the legendary Royal Botanic Kew Gardens being a particular highlight as well as the Chelsea Physic Gardens and the parks in Hyde Park, Hampstead Heath, Richmond Park, and St James Park to name but a few. But if you are there for a brief weekend you will no doubt want to see some of the star attractions and the best way to do this is probably on one of the open-top buses.

Pick a route and take yourself around some of the world’s most famous sights from Parliament and Big Ben to the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace. Take a stroll along the south bank and take in the immense panorama of this fascinating city – if you’ve got the time go up in the wonderful London Eye that offers magnificent views over the whole of London. Then spend a few hours walking around some of the famous old buildings to take in the classical architecture, from numerous ancient cathedrals and churches (especially Westminster Abbey and St Paul’s Cathedral) to the thousands of Victorian buildings and Georgian Squares to the more famous modern buildings such as 30 St Mary Axe, known affectionately as the ‘Gherkin’.
